Community Foundation of Southeastern Massachusetts

Mission Statement: 
CFSEMA is a tax-exempt, public charity serving thousands of people who share a common concern – improving the quality of life in Southeastern Massachusetts.

At the Community Foundation of Southeastern Massachusetts, we work to facilitate, advise, convene and respond to critical community issues, such as education, the arts and the environment.

The Marion Institute

Mission Statement: 
The Marion Institute is dedicated to identifying, promoting and incubating programs and serendipity projects that seek to find a solution for the root cause of an issue, both on a global and local level, in the realms of sustainability and social justice.

The Marion Institute is a member based non-profit that acts as an incubator for a diverse array of programs and projects that delve into the root cause of an issue and seeks to create deep and positive change for the earth and its inhabitants.

The Ocean Explorium at New Bedford Seaport

Mission Statement: 
It is the mission of the Ocean Explorium to establish New Bedford as a center for ocean science public education, with an emphasis on environmental stewardship and science literacy.

Our site in downtown New Bedford brings the ocean alive through the Living Ocean exhibit which consists of six aquatic habitats that highlight issues shown on Science on a Sphere®. A vibrant living coral reef introduces global climate change, coral bleaching and biodiversity. Other live exhibits include Scallops, New England Fishes, Jellyfish, Anemone Fishes and Seahorses!

Southeastern Massachusetts Agricultural Partnership

Mission Statement: 
SEMAP is dedicated to preserving and expanding access to local food and sustainable farming in Southeastern Massachusetts through research and education.

Southeastern Massachusetts has a rich and diverse heritage of farming, with agricultural enterprises that range from dairy to vineyards to orchards, specialty herbs, and shellfish farms.  Founded in 1998, SEMAP is a community partnership working to support our region's farms.

Southeastern Regional Planning & Economic Development District (SRPEDD)

SRPEDD is a regional planning agency serving 27 cities and towns in Southeastern Massachusetts. We are governed by a Commission of local officials and citizens and we plan for the region's land use, transportation, economy and environment while assisting member cities and towns to operate more efficiently. Our region is a mix of urban, suburban, and rural landscapes with a population of over 600,000 in 808 square miles.

Bristol Community College Green Center

Mission Statement: 
The Green Center promotes sustainable practices in our region through workforce training and community education.

Partnering with residents, students and educators, local business leaders, and community organizations, we are working to make Southeastern Massachusetts a healthier and more sustainable place to live. Our variety of programs, whether focused on home weatherization, renewable energy technologies, or green lifestyle practices, give our participants opportunities to expand their skills and prepare for the growing job market in these areas.

UMass Dartmouth Sustainability Initiative

Mission Statement: 
The Sustainability Initiative’s mission is to assure that all graduates from UMass Dartmouth will be environmentally literate and responsible, and work toward regional sustainability; to contribute to the international re-examination of paradigms in business, science, and technology through the establishment of educational programs that combine stellar interdisciplinary research and groundbreaking partnerships with business, non-profit groups, government agencies, and educational institutions.

Education for sustainability is divided into four major goals to help institutions achieve sustainability:

  • Greening the campus
  • Greening academics
  • Greening research
  • Greening private and public partnerships

Work on all of these goals is integrated and deeply involves students in interdisciplinary, experiential problem solving of campus and regional, public and private environmental and economic sustainability and social justice issues.

City of New Bedford

New Bedford is a wonderfully diverse, culturally rich community with a proud present, past and future.  The city has a strong committment to environmental stewardship with an ambitious sustainable New Bedford plan!
